Connecting Bosch Zigbee / matter thermostat II [M +] not possible

All three of my zigbee based Radiator thermostat II did break physically. Bosch did replace them under warrantee. The first replacement was a Zigbee only device and eventually it worked (see other thread here)

The other two got replaced by a newer model. It is supposed to support Matter and zigbee.
Switching between both modes is easy enough: Holding the main button for 5 seconds.

However the installation procedure that worked for the first replacement that was zigbee only no longer works.

Did anybody have success with these new devices?

Upon boot they are in Matter mode and show Firmware 602. Switching to zigbee the boot message about the firmware is 118 now.

Phoscon software versions I have tried are 2.22.02 and 2.30.2 - no change.

I had the same problem…

The connection was established, but the thermostat doesn’t appear in Phoscon.

The “new” thermostats have received a new product number.

RBSH-TRV0-ZB-EU (Zigbee only)
RBSH-TRV1-ZB-EU (M+)

For testing purposes, I took the DDF from the old one and inserted it as a copy with the changed product number. After that, the thermostat can be used.

→ A device request still needs to be created here.

Thank you so much. That does make allot of sense.

I must be making a stupid mistake since it still does not work for me. I created a new file like this:

> cd /usr/share/deCONZ/devices/bosch
>
> diff thermostat2zm.json thermostat2.json
> 5c5
> < "modelid": "RBSH-TRV1-ZB-EU",
> ---
> > "modelid": "RBSH-TRV0-ZB-EU",
> 7c7
> < "product": "Thermostat II (zm)",
> ---
> > "product": "Thermostat II (BTH-RA)",

I did

sudo systemctl restart deconz
curl -X POST http://localhost:80/api/ -d '{"devicetype": "testkey"}'
[{"success":{"username":"1C31242255"}}]

curl -X PUT -H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"installcode": "D9F4254A4FE3F5BE13A393E6324D417AC43E"}' http://localhost:80/api/1C31242255/devices/BC026EFFE8D957E/installcode

[{"success":{"installcode":"D9F4254A4FE3F5BE13A393E6324D417AC43E","mmohash":"92E1DBE8D2266448EDDB560F300B9FC4"}}]

but still can not pair - the thermostat itself is on Zigbee mode, blinking orange after a battery insert while holding the main (and only) button.

Is there a log file where I could see details about any fails in the pairing attempt?

sudo journalctl -u deconz -f

was not helpful for me …

I had the same problem once.

The thermostat was only “halfway” integrated. Check the Deconz GUI to see if it’s there. Then delete it first.

I followed the following steps to integrate it.

Send the installation code with Node Red
Click “Add Thermostat” in Phoscon.
If necessary, resend the installation code via Node Red.

Note: I’ve only managed to do this with a Conbee 2. The Conbee 3 is causing problems for me, and I can’t get it to work.

However, you can transfer the backup to the Conbee 3, and then the thermostat will work.

since nothing worked I gave up and used matter with home assistant.

there are some strange spikes (2 blue lines on the right are the BOSCH Matter devices, while
the left is the Zigbee device that got replaced a couple of weeks earlier)

Now I just hope that this batch of thermostats works for longer than the 3 months that the first batch could survive …
